Phil is the founder and face of Five Rivers Recruitment.  Having worked in various roles at the job centre for over thirty years he realised when the time came to leave that there was a niche for high quality ethical recruitment consultancy within Salisbury.  To this end Five Rivers Recruitment was born in 2004 and has grown in size and reputation ever since.  Phil is justifiably proud of what the company has achieved and is a vocal advocate of the importance of good people to local businesses.

A keen sportsman earlier in life, Phil now limits his exertions to an occasional game of tennis and lots of energetic walks with his two dogs.  He is, however, happy to talk in great detail on almost any sport you care to mention, as well as having a borderline obsession with Les Miserables.  There is a belief in the office that if Phil is ever offered tickets to Les Mis and Man United on the same day he may well explode.

Richard moved into the industry with Five Rivers Recruitment in 2007, having previously worked in a variety of media sales and account management roles in London and Bristol.  Richard is responsible for most of our technical and sales recruitment as well as being the general office contact when it comes to marketing, social media and IT issues. 

Richard lives in Warminster with his wife, three children and three cats and can often be found playing golf very badly at a variety of courses around Wiltshire. He is a co-founder of the Warminster Philharmonic Orchestra along with his wife and is the orchestra's honourary tea maker-in-chief. He also used to run the occasional half-marathon, although you wouldn't guess it to look at him!

Kate joined Five Rivers Recruitment in 2010 fresh out of college at that point.  Kate quickly adapted to the Five Rivers ethos and her can-do attitude has won her many friends amongst clients and candidates alike.  Kate undertook her Certificate in Recruitment Practice in 2010 and since then has been an integral part of the growth of the company, progressing to become our successful  Permanent consultant. 

Kate loves a challenge; present her with a tricky requirement any day of the week and she will do her upmost to source a suitable match! Kate started her CIPD Qualifications in September 2015 and was excited to have the opportunity to become a student again! (It may be the retail discount she received with the student card spurring her on!!). Kate recently found out that she has now passed her CIPD Level 3!

In 2013 Kate became the proud owner of her first home along side her partner Dan and they have since completed their nest with the addition of Shola, their Rottweiler puppy. Often getting up to mischief around the house and as a well-known sock thief, there is never a dull moment in the Courtnell – Smith residence with Shola around!

 At weekends, Kate enjoys volunteering at Dogs Trust in Newton Tony (and has recently rehomed a German Sheppard called Saxon) as well as socialising with friends and family.

Lisa Kent - Business Development Manager

Lisa joined Five Rivers Recruitment in May 2016 as the Business Development Manager for our new premises in Melksham which opened this June. Lisa’s background is in sales and recruitment, she has a good knowledge of recruitment and excellent customer service experience hence her ability to build good long lasting client relationships. Lisa loves an oppurtunity to meet new business contacts so rarely declines an invitiation to networking events, and has recently attended her first speed networking event which was both enjoyable and worthwile as new relationships are already being established.   

A mother of two young children who keep her own her toes, Lisa is always out and about keeping them entertained. Lisa has a passion for dance though hasn’t performed herself for some years. She studied dance as a teenager and has a few claims to fame including dancing with the likes of Whigfield to the annoying yet popular ‘Saturday Night’ which most commonly still gets played at holiday parks, where Lisa also worked as a seasonal coat style entertainer performing in nightly dance shows, also being your presenter and Bingo caller and providing families with children of all ages daytime activities. Lisa really is a lady of many talents but recruitment seems to be the ‘hat’ that is best suited to her at this time.

Kayleigh joined Five Rivers Recruitment in August 2014 as an Office Administrator after leaving college with successful A-Levels. Over the past year, Kayleigh has gained a huge amount of knowledge and understanding of the recruitment world and has gained a lot of responsibility within Five Rivers Recruitment with recently being promoted to the Junior Recruiter managing the Temporary Desk.

Kayleigh moved into her own place with her boyfriend in October 2015. They are really enjoying the independence and having the responsibility of having their own home to look after. At the moment, Kayleigh is finding housework very enjoyable – but I am sure that won’t take long to change! 

Roger Thomas

Roger is an experienced ‘people development’ trainer who has been facilitating learning events for over 20 years. Roger designs and runs bespoke, interactive and fun training, based on tangible business objectives. He has organised team builds, coached individuals, presented to European business managers and even won awards for Diversity projects (2007). 

Roger has lived in Salisbury with his family for the last 17 years. He is also a keen tennis player and he and Phil can often be found out on centre court (and even more regularly in the bar afterwards watching the football!).

Philip Buckley has been a successful Accountant, Financial Advisor and businessman since 1983, when he set up businesses specialising in advising the business community. Philip enjoys a challenge to save, make and grow businesses; the more complex the challenge, the better, with the aim of giving the feel good factor, nil stress and solutions to problems.

In 2004, Philip put his knowledge and experience into establishing Five Rivers Recruitment with Phil Downer. You can also find Philip leading the team at Buckleys Chartered Accountants in Ower, Romsey, as well as keenly working with various charities such as the Pilgrim Bandits.
